At Intergenerational Living Corvallis, we champion cohesive, diverse communities and respect for all ages.

Supporting People of All Ages

One of our first campaigns is Keep Jim at CoHo, to ensure a retired vet with Parkinsons can continue to thrive in his chosen community surrounded by people who care about him. Donations to this campaign help Jim now in the form of a secured loan. When he finally moves on from CoHo, these funds will be used to further ILC's mission.

Jim's Story

Neighbors Helping Neighbors

Jim has lived in intergenerational cohousing since 2015, but in 2022 he slipped on the stairs to his home on the second story, and made the decision that it was no longer the best choice for him.

A younger, concerned neighbor offered to swap her home on the ground floor for his, and the whole community pitched in to make that happen.  One neighbor worked on making sure the financial aspects would work, while another became a project manager for the swap.

Painting and cleaning commenced for both homes and was executed by an intergenerational group of youth, middle age and older folks.  The swap resulted in the best possible living situation for Jim.  He now has a tranquil ground floor home among the trees and greenery he loves and the security and joy which comes from being in his new location.

As time passed Jim’s brother, Jeff, became concerned with his health.  In order to address the financial burden of increased assistance, Jeff worked with Jim’s friend, Janet, and neighbors, Debby and Anne to establish a team that meets regularly to assess the situation.  Recently, the team requested funds from Intergenerational Living Corvallis to hire additional support, with Maggie and  Lisa joining the team as “aids to daily living”, with their delightful and kind attentions.

As Jim’s condition progresses, the watchfulness and support will increase naturally.  So goes intergenerational living in Corvallis.
